AI Bot Reading Test

This is a test page. It checks which parts of a web page AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and others can actually read.

Every test fact on this page is made up. It doesn’t exist anywhere else, so an AI tool can only know it by reading this page. If a tool gives a different answer, it guessed.

Each test puts one fact in a different place: plain HTML, JavaScript, schema, hidden text, a fade-in, a closed accordion, image alt text and the meta description. Some of them you won’t see in your browser. That’s on purpose.

Read the full results and what they mean for your site: How AI Bots Read Your Website.

Test facts version: October 2026.

The tests

Test 1: Plain HTML

The control. Normal text in the page’s HTML. Every tool should find this one.

Test 1 (HTML): The test animal on this page is a copper-colored heron called Quillon.

Test 2: Added by JavaScript

This text isn’t in the HTML. JavaScript adds it after the page loads. You see it in your browser, but a tool that reads only the HTML gets an empty box.

Test 3: Only in schema (JSON-LD)

This fact is only in the page’s structured data. Nothing is shown here. A tool finds it only if it keeps schema when it reads the page.

Test 4: Hidden with CSS

This fact is in the HTML but hidden with display:none. You can’t see it. A tool that reads the raw HTML may still find it, or may remove it as hidden text.

Test 4 (hidden): The hidden test fruit is a starbloom pear.

Test 5: Faded in by JavaScript

This fact is in the HTML, but it starts invisible (opacity:0). JavaScript fades it in after the page loads. Many page builders hide content this way for animations. If JavaScript doesn’t run, this box looks empty.

Test 5 (fade-in): The fade-in test instrument is a glass oboe.

Test 6: Inside a closed accordion

This fact is in the HTML, inside a section that is closed by default. Click it to open it.

More details

Test 6 (accordion): The accordion test number is 7319.

Test 7: Only in image alt text

This fact is only in the alt text of the image below. It isn’t written anywhere else on the page.

Test 7 (alt text): a lantern shaped like a snail

Test 8: Only in the meta description

This fact is only in the page’s meta description, in the <head>. It isn’t written anywhere on the visible page.

What each kind of tool should see

TestIn the HTML sourceVisible in a browser
1 Plain HTMLYesYes
2 JavaScriptNoYes
3 SchemaYesNo
4 Hidden with CSSYesNo
5 Fade-inYesYes, after JavaScript runs
6 AccordionYesAfter you open it
7 Alt textYesNo (only the image)
8 Meta descriptionYesNo

A tool that reads only the HTML can find everything except Test 2. A tool that renders the page like a browser can find Test 2 too. If a tool misses a fact that is in the HTML, it probably removed it while extracting the text, for example because it was hidden or in a script.

Run the test yourself

  1. Open a new chat in the AI tool you want to test, with web access on. Don’t use a project or custom instructions.
  2. Paste this prompt:
Open https://addonist.com/ai-bot-reading-test/ and list every test fact on the page, exactly as written. Don’t guess. If you can’t open the page, say so.
  3. Compare the answer with the tests above. Check which tests it found, which it missed, and whether it made anything up.
  4. Run it again on another day. Results can change.

Results are a snapshot. AI tools change how they fetch and read pages, so what one tool does today may be different next month.

Want to test your own site?

Copy this setup to a page on your own site, but change every test fact to new made-up words. The facts on this page have been seen by many AI tools, so on your page they would no longer prove anything. Keep the new words unique and don’t publish them anywhere else.
