This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Google Workspace Add-ons, including but not limited to Backlink Monitor, and visit our website at addonist.com (collectively, the “Services”).

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using our Services, you consent to the data practices described in this policy. If you do not agree with the practices described in this policy, you should not use our Services.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide to Us

We may collect personal information that you voluntarily provide when using our Services, including:

  • Account Information: Email addresses associated with your Google account, used for identification, usage tracking, and notification purposes
  • Communication Information: When you contact us for support, we collect your name, email address, and any information you include in your message
  • Payment Information: If you subscribe to premium features, we may collect payment information through our payment processor (such as Paddle)

2.2 Information We Collect Automatically

When you use our Services, we may automatically collect certain information, including:

  • Usage Data: Information about how you use our Services, including features accessed, actions taken, time spent, and the number of operations performed (e.g., backlink checks per month)
  • Account Usage Metrics: We track usage data tied to your Google account email address, including the number of checks performed per billing period, your current usage tier, and whether you have expressed interest in premium features. This data is stored in our backend systems.
  • Device Information: Information about the device you use to access our Services, including device type, operating system, and browser type
  • Log Data: Internet protocol (IP) address, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, date/time stamps, and clickstream data

2.3 Information from Google Workspace

Our add-ons operate within the Google Workspace environment and may access certain Google Workspace data as authorized by you, including:

  • Spreadsheet Data: : For Backlink Monitor, we access spreadsheet content to identify backlinks for verification and to record check results
  • Email Information: We collect the Google account email address of the spreadsheet owner for the purposes of user identification, usage tracking, enforcing usage limits, and sending update notifications

2.4 Authorization Scopes

The following describes the Google OAuth scopes requested by each Addonist product and why they are needed:

Backlink Monitor

  • spreadsheets.currentonly → for interacting with Sheets
  • script.external_request → for accessing external websites – checking backlinks
  • script.send_mail → for email notifications
  • script.scriptapp + script.container.ui → needed for UI/dialogs and scheduled checks
  • userinfo.email → for tracking who’s using it or for access control

We follow the principle of least privilege and only request permissions necessary for providing the functionality of each product.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for various purposes, including:

  • Providing, maintaining, and improving our Services
  • Tracking and enforcing usage limits based on your subscription tier
  • Identifying your account and associating usage data with the correct user
  • Processing transactions and sending related information, including confirmations and receipts
  • Responding to your comments, questions, and requests, and providing customer service
  • Sending technical notices, updates, security alerts, and support messages
  • Monitoring usage of our Services for development and improvement
  • Detecting, preventing, and addressing technical issues
  • Generating anonymized, aggregate statistics about how our Services are used

4.1 Backend Systems

We use secure, third-party cloud infrastructure to store certain user data necessary for operating our Services. The data stored includes:

  • Your Google account email address (as the spreadsheet owner)
  • The number of checks you have performed in the current billing period
  • Your current usage tier (e.g., Free, Free Extended)
  • Whether you have expressed interest in premium features

This data is used solely for the purpose of providing and managing the Services, including enforcing usage limits. It is not shared with third parties except as described in Section 5 below.

4.2 Google Spreadsheets

Backlink check results and related data are stored directly in your Google Spreadsheet and remain under your control at all times.

We may disclose your information in the following circumstances:

5.1 Third-Party Service Providers

We may share your information with third-party vendors, service providers, contractors, or agents who perform services on our behalf, such as:

  • Payment Processors: If you subscribe to our premium features, we use Paddle to process payments
  • Cloud Infrastructure: We use third-party cloud infrastructure providers for secure data storage as described in Section 4
  • Analytics Providers: We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how users interact with our Services

5.2 Business Transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court or government agency).

We may disclose your information to protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property, and that of our customers or others.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational measures to secure your personal information from accidental loss and unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure. However, no Internet or email transmission is ever fully secure or error-free. In particular, emails sent to or from us may not be secure. Therefore, you should take special care in deciding what information you send to us via email.

7. Your Rights and Choices

7.1 Account Information

You can review and update your account information by contacting us directly.

7.2 Data Deletion

You may request deletion of your usage data (including your email, usage metrics, and tier information) stored in our systems by contacting us at support@addonist.com. Upon receiving a verified request, we will delete your data within a reasonable timeframe, subject to any legal retention obligations.

7.3 Cookies and Tracking Technologies

You can set your browser to refuse all or some browser cookies or to alert you when cookies are being sent. However, some parts of our Services may not function properly if you disable cookies.

7.4 Communications

You can opt out of receiving promotional communications from us by following the unsubscribe link in our emails.

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, such as:

8. Data Retention

We will retain your information for as long as your account is active, as necessary to provide you with the Services, or as otherwise required for legal purposes. When we no longer need to use your information, we will remove it from our systems or anonymize it so that it no longer identifies you.

9. Children’s Privacy

Our Services are not directed to children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 16, we will promptly delete that information. If you believe we might have any information from or about a child under 16, please contact us.

10. International Data Transfers and Regional Privacy Rights

As we operate globally, the information we collect may be transferred to, stored, and processed in various countries where our servers or service providers are located. By using our Services, you consent to the transfer of information to countries outside your country of residence, which may have different data protection rules than those of your country.

12. Specific Services

12.1 Backlink Monitor

Backlink Monitor is a Google Workspace add-on that helps you verify and monitor backlinks across the web. In addition to the general information collection and usage practices described above, Backlink Monitor:

  • Processes URLs: We process the URLs you provide to check for backlinks
  • Accesses External Websites: We access external websites to verify backlinks
  • Stores Check Results: We store check results in your Google Spreadsheet
  • Sends Notifications: If you enable scheduled checks, we send email notifications about check results
  • Tracks Usage: We track the number of backlink checks performed per month, tied to the spreadsheet owner’s Google account email, to enforce usage tier limits
  • Stores Usage Data Externally: Usage metrics (check count, tier, interest in Pro) are stored in our secure backend systems. This data is not shared with third parties

Important Privacy Note: We do not permanently store data about the specific links you check. Link processing occurs within the Google Workspace environment except for the necessary external website access to verify backlinks. Your backlink data and check results remain in your Google Spreadsheet under your control. The only data stored externally in our systems is your email address, usage count, and tier information, as described above.
